Christopher
Robinson
(b.1955) studied piano, voice, trumpet, and
music theory in his youth. On a different track, he completed a B.Sc.
in 1977 and served as an officer in Canada's Air Force until retirement
in 1993. During his twenty years of service, Mr. Robinson was active in
the sacred music ministries for the Air Force bases at which he was
stationed. He continues to be active in the music ministry at St.
Joseph's Parish in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Since 1998, Mr. Robinson
has been pursuing further music studies at the University of Winnipeg
and Mr. Robinson has written many short instrumental works, a string quartet, choral music and several pieces for voice. His first major work, A Mass for St. Joseph, includes a bilingual text in German and English with guitar and piano accompaniments. Mr. Robinson is presently working on his largest composition, a sacred cantata called The Woman. His music has been performed in public recitals as well as in the academic setting at university. Mr. Robinson is a founding member of Edge of the Earth (formerly Le Nouveau Cinq), a Winnipeg composers' collective which performs new music regularly. This group has been collaborating since April 2000. Christopher is fluent with Finale for the Macintosh and has assisted Prairie Sky Music with publishing projects, as well as working with Maryanne Rumancik on a collaborative composition project, Living Prairies. |
